Default "Testing" Unid'd Items?????

Hello everyone,
I've been playing GW for a long time on and off. I stopped playing for a couple of months because I got bored. Then Factions came out and that old feeling of new items and classes came roaring back.
Babble aside, I just recently started hearing that there is a way to test your Unid'd items before Id'ing them to tell you what mods are on it.
Im not sure if this thread is a duplicate of and old one or not (since the search button went a-wall). If anyone has any knowlege about how to "TEST" their unid'd items, post it or PM me to discuss it because it interests me to mknow what this whole "testing" thing means.

Thanks

{KoS}

Well, you can obviously tell if your weapon has a health, zealous, vampiric, or energy mod by simply equiping them.
For the other mods, you can take your weapon and compare it to a clean version of the same weap and seeing the damage differences..

u cant test anything just health and energy bonuses as i know.
if u equip item unid'd and it has a energy or health bonus your health or energy will raise.
thats all i know about it

Now, im not 100% sure that im right, but i belive they do it like this:

Lets say they have a unid Gold max dmg 8 req Fellblade..

They Equip it and see if their hp or Energy rise. If it does, it has a hp mod, or build in enegy mod on it.

And they they head off to istle of the namess with on a Char with Wild blow.

Then they first test the dmg of another weapon with No dmg mods and max dmg, see how much dmg it does.. Then do the same with the unid fellblade. (make a few trys to make sure that a possible sundering mod dont screw the result)..

Then if it does more dmg it has a xx dmg + while over 15% hp

and then ofc they try to Do it while stance, and Enchanted to see if it has one of that mods..

and Finally if they discover that the weapon has a added dmg mod, they can see if its perf or close to perf by seeing the dmg of another 15^50 weap, and then compare the dmg of the 2..

That way you should be able to see some of the mods..

also, i guess you could go into the extreem and Go to scrimmage, with a friend and let him use Wild blow on you with and without the sword to see if it has a def mod, (with elemental hit too to see if warding mod)

Yes, you can test unID'd weapons and shields for all specs, including all upgrades. There was a guide to how to do it posted on this website a couple of months ago, but the guy later pulled it.

Unfortunately those who know don't want others to know, and most who don't know don't even know it can be done.... But the take home message is this: never buy unID'd items thinking you'll find something rare and make a killing, because it is very, very, likely that the seller has tested the item and knows exactly what it is.

Huh, there's really not a guide for that? I'll go ahead and make one.

Yes..basic equiping and checking the health and energy bar to see if it has anything worth id'ing. And if u want to spend the extra time to compare a weapon to the unid is your choice but a waiste of time IMO.

^ It's not a waste of time when you find out what mods it has.. If it sucks, go sell it un-id, especially if you find a rare skin weapon like fellblades, phoenix blades, or oni blades.. Would you rather merch it for less than 1k when you can sell it for more than 30k unid?

I'm against the sale of unidentified weapons for pretty much this reason. While it might be a good lesson for the buyer not to trust people, it also rewards the seller for taking advantage of other players, and thats something I don't think the game should promote. I think Arenanet should just make an unidentified weapon's mods inactive untill identified. I see nothing wrong with selling unidentified items if the seller truly doesn't know what he is selling either.

I whole-heartedly agree. This is a common feature in most role-playing games...I'm not sure why A-Net hasn't adopted this stance.
